Perfect Crowning Touch: A New Metal Roof Highlights Superb Architectural Style of a Grand Oregon Estate

A roof worthy of a “forever” home.

The Project:
For homeowners of a secluded 72-acre estate in Oregon, their new home was the realization of a dream of a lifetime. Because this was the 22nd residence the homeowners had lived in, they knew exactly what they wanted. The original home on the property was torn down to make way for a beautiful transitional lodge style 8,700 square foot home, which took nearly four years to complete.

Nestled between wine country and equestrian barns, this special property now includes a five-acre private reservoir, a swimming pool, two detached bars, a wine cellar, casita, pool room, study and gym along with a beautiful outdoor space.

The Challenge:
The architects suggested a metal roof and the homeowners felt it would not only fit the modern-traditional lodge aesthetic wonderfully, but it also would be the most practical choice due to its long lifespan, low maintenance and wildfire protection benefits. The new metal roof also will provide long term energy efficiency and all season protection for the home.

No doubt a roofing project of this size and scale, with its many different profiles and elevations, was a massive challenge for Bliss Roofing, the installer for the project. The company used an astonishing 275 squares (or 26,000 square feet) of Cool Kynar 500 Dark Bronze Easy Lock Standing Seam Steel Metal panels for the new roof. Manufactured by Taylor Metals, the panels help showcase the impressive custom design and details of the one-story gabled roof home.

Spotlight on APEX Roofing:
With a 54-year track record of installing quality metal roofs, this project also earned the title of Bliss Roofing’s largest residential project to date. The project is so impressive, it recently received top honors in the Metal Roofing Alliance (MRA) and Metal Coffee Shop’s Best Residential Metal Roofing Project competition for the third quarter of 2023.

“This project demonstrates how architects, builders, installers and manufacturers can successfully work together to ensure quality, not only when it comes to long-term performance and reliability, but also incredible style. With its stunning metal roof, this home is the very definition of beautiful design, both inside and out,” said Renee Ramey, MRA executive director.
