I am planning to install a standing seam metal roof on a home on the intercoastal waterway in Cocoa, FL. Could you provide some information about paint finishes? My research reveals references to SMP and PVDF based products and Kynar finishes. What do these abbreviations mean? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?
Thanks.

Generally, the industry recognizes Kynar 500 / Hylar 5000 as the best available pre-painted finishes. These are the trade names for PVDF which represents a particular paint resin. These finishes are known for their fade and chalk resistance.
SMP stands for siliconized modified polyester. It is a lower grade finish but it has also been used a lot on metal roofing.
I would suggest a comparison of warranties on the two products, as well as going out and seeing jobs that have been up for several years. On the warranties, look specifically for fade and chalk warranty coverage.
