It seems there are few houses built in the midwest with low-pitched roofs because, with no attic to speak of, heat is trapped inside the home. Exactly how much of a problem is this? Can anything been done to solve the problem?

Insulation and ventilation play many roles in home efficiency as well as avoiding condensation issues. Flat roofs can be made into pitched roofs to increase ventilation and insulation.
