We have a sheet metal roof on the house at our camp and would like to occupy (and heat) the house through the winter, rather than close it down. The roof is only a few years old and in good condition. Drainage is direct - no gutters or downspouts. The part of the roof that needs protection is about 30 feet long and has a slope of about 3 inches in a foot. What kind (or brand) of heating element could be used to prevent ice build-up? Ice dam materials (elements) at local hardware stores are only for shingle roofs. Is there a heating tape - or type of wire element - that is effective and safe for metal roofs? How is it attached?
Thank you.
