I know that the astm e 1680 test determines the resistance of exterior metal roof panel systems to air infiltration but I dont understand how air leakage impacts the performance of the metal roof system. What are the benefits or disadvantages of air leaking? What is a normal rate of air leakage for a metal roof i.e. 2 inch mechanical with a 180 deg seam or 1 3/4 snap lock? And lastly, what is the minimum requirement to pass the test? I cant seem to find the anwsers and if anyone could answer a few of these or point me in the right direction it would really help me out, thanks.

I would suggest contacting the manufacturers of the roof systems which promote that they have run this test.
I am not an expert in this area but I believe this test is done for certain types of metal building construction where air infiltration is not sought.
However, for residential construction when decking is in place on the roof, the less air that passes through a roof system, the more subject it can be to wind uplift pressures.
