We have a standing seam metal roof on a house we're building. We also have a standing metal roof on a huge hip roofed barn. We tried to put gutters on our barn to no avail. The snow ripped them off the first year. How can we put gutters on our new house to stop the erosion and water damage without losing them to snow slides.

My suggestion is minimum 6" gutters made from minimum .032" thick aluminum mounted as high as possible using fascia brackets into each rafter end.

There are some gutter caps that work with metal roofs that are also worth looking into. That will help shed the snow without it catching the gutter edge and tearing it off.
