sliding snow hits neighbors house

The snow on north side roof gathers and then falls all at once. I live in a neighborhood where the houses are close together. When the snow falls off the roof after a heavy snowfall it can hit the neighbors siding and cause damage. What is the best way to slow down or reduce the amount that falls all at once without causing any problems for my roof. No problem on the south side since this faces the sun.
