We have a metal shingle roof made of terne metal. Over time it has developed a few spots where it is rusting. Is there anything I can treat or paint these spots with to stop or slow the rusting?

use oxalic acid first them use cold gal spray paint

Wow. I am not sure other than clean the rust as best you can and use several coats of rust inhibiting primer and then a finish coat.
