Our home was built in 1932, and has a hipped roof. The flat areas of the roof (5 in total) are metal, and the sloped areas are shingles. We are having problems with leaks on the metal roofs, on the flats but also especially at the joint between the metal and shingles. Can you recommend an effective coating or paint for the metal to stop the leaks? We have heard of a silicone coating called Gaco, but we are not sure if this is suitable for our roof. (not to mention it is typically white, which will not work) Or can you recommend a more permanent solution to roof over or even replace the existing flat metal?

These problems can actually sometimes be more than "skin deep". I would, as such, suggest having an experienced metal roofing contractor inspect the project.
