closure strips

Hi. I just had a contractor replace my old aluminum roof with galvalume. This roof has no plywood underlay. I was at my job during the installation so I am not sure if he used closure strips but I will soon find out (need tall ladder). My previous roof had them and I assumed it would be standard procedure. If they are missing, can they be installed after-the-fact? I am worried about bugs and bats entering.
