As much as we all try to avoid it, there are times when we need to get out on the roof. I'm finding metal very difficult to move around on safely.
Is it possible to apply a non-skid finish like you would to a concrete floor? I know there are additives you can mix into paint, but I don't want to degrade the factory surface.

I'm not as concerned with warranty as with effectiveness and safety. I don't want to try to apply something that will peel or flake or bubble the factory finish. The areas I'm looking at doing don't have a real steep pitch and you can easily walk on shingles. There are other areas with a steeper pitch that I won't try to work on.

No, not metal shingles. I've only got part of it done so far with 5 rib metal with a smooth/semi-glossy surface. There's an area on the back of the house I'm not sure I want to do with metal since I use it for access to the garage roof across a breezeway since I can step out through a large window instead of using a ladder. That area still has old shingles and I may have to use shingles again if I can't find a way to make the smooth surface easier to walk on.

I am not real fond of doing something due to losing the original warranty but I have heard of a product called www.snowgripit.com

So, this is a metal shingle job? Sometime folks will put thick foam (like seat cushion foam) on the roof and walk on that.
If this is a fairly new roof and it has a Kynar coating, then I share your concern about another coating sticking well to it.
