The rusted areas should be cleaned and touched up several times with rust inhibiting paint before proceeding with primer and top coat on the entire roof. There are various levels of paint quality available to you. Martin Painting out of Grove City, Ohio does this kind of work.

I have a standing seam rolled steel galvalume roof that is starting to rust in various locations. It is 15 years old and has never had any coating or paint on it...just has weathered to a natural grey patina. I really like the color as it is, but realize I need to address the rusting issue before it gets worse. My question is what products do you recommend to use on this roof? Also, what is the best time of the year to paint? I also would appreciate the names of any area contractors that have experience in painting these types of metal roofs.
