Thanks for the question and for using metal.
Rigid insulation is commonly placed on top of decking and then an underlayment on top of the insulation. The metal roof is then installed on top of the underlayment.
As far the seam type, trapezoidal seam profiles are common on large, low slope projects and vertical seam profiles are more common on steeper slope projects.

We are planning to install standing seam metal roofing over a structural metal deck (we need the structural sheathing for shear) The metal sheathing is typical structural metal decking (grooved). What do we need to know or provide under the standing seam roofing before it is installed?
Also, any recommendations as to the best type of seam?
