It sounds (no pun intended) like the insulation was packed in and it is actual;ly transferring the noise. An airspace integrated into the system would probably help, with insulation below that.

Okay here it is. I bought a mobile home in 2012. It had a standard roll on metal roof that was poor at best. It started to leak and the gutters were a pain. I live under several trees and the sound that the acorns made falling was unbearable. I talked to a roofing contractor who told me that he could make it quiet. He installed 1x4 lathes at about 4 feet apart. Once he did this he covered the entire roof with 3 inch fiberglass insulation with a vinyl backing. He then installed 26 gauge galvalume ag panel over that. It is now even louder than before. I can't take the noise and wonder if there is anything that I can do to make my roof quiet. It is so bad that I am honestly trying to sell it and get something with shingles. I was a believer in metal roofs but am now not so sure. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there anything I can put on top of the metal or perhaps something that I can do to add a quiet roof? Thanks for any help!

I wouldn't know where to begin on that. I'd hate to have to spend thousands more to have it redone. Is there anything that can be put on top of a metal roof (rubber coating, waterproof material), that would dampen the sound or keep the metal from resonating?

The lathe needed to be uncoupled from the home with some sort of isolation material (green glue, rubber, resilient channel on isolators, etc.).
Nothing about what he did will formatively impact the noise as it is still be carried on the framing and now with a hollow deck, almost and echo chamber.
