Drainage where two gables meet

I am having my roof replaced due to hail, I have an area where two gables meet, and the repair is a butcher job, I know it didn't look like that before..they used massive putty..I was trying to find an example to show how it should look with no outside putty or not much..the roof needs to be able to drain at this point but, but what they did is questionable.
