We have a two story house shaped a bit like an old school house. It was built @ 15 years ago and is sided in cement board. When we had the house painted a few years ago our painter told us that installing a metal standing seam roof on the lower section would preclude us from having the upper sections painted in future. Would damage be done to the roof as a result of a painter standing on it? How do others handle this challenge?

There are ways to install and clamp walk boards to a standing seam roof. The brackets can be expensive but are available and do work.
No reason to not get the roof that you really want because painting might be a bit more difficult.
