Thanks Cindy. It is common for a quality metal roof to be 2.5 - 4 times the cost of standard shingles. Certainly there are things you can learn on this website to help you choose what sort of style of metal roof you like -- through fastened, standing seam, shake look, tile look, slate look, etc.
However, choosing a product is only part of the selection process. You also need to find a contractor who knows what they are doing, who takes some time to evaluate and understand your roof and its unique needs, and whom you trust. I do not know how to do that unless you meet with them. Talk to them, gain a comfort level, see how they approach the understanding of your roof. Get references and talk to past customers. There are companies out there claiming they do metal roofing but in reality they have no specialized training and little if any experience. Meeting with them is the only way I know to evaluate those things.
I know it sounds like a lot to go through but it is a big decision. It does require some time to be devoted to it.

Hello, I would like to purchase a metal roof for my home. In the past when I have had my roof re-shingled I would call companies for estimates. The roofer would come take the measurements and leave me a quote in my mail box. There are several reputable roofing companies in my area. Trying to get estimates for a metal roof is proving to be more difficult. Finding metal roofing companies on the internet is harder. When I have contacted the metal roofing companies they want to make an appointment with me. At this time I am unable to sit with several different companies while they try to sell me their product.
How can I know that I am getting a good quality roof at a good price? How can I compare 1 metal roof to another? Are metal roofs 3 to 4 times the price of a shingled roof? It is a lot of money but I am willing to invest in this house. I just don't know how I can be sure that the quote I have been given is fair price and not too high.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
