snow removal

My home has a metal roof that sheds snow well. On one end of the house is a large deck covered with the same metal roof at the same slope. That section of roof is screwed directly to purlins over an open truss structure. Unfortunately, this section of roof sheds snow on the steps leading down from the deck which is our only ingress/egress from the house to the driveway. I'd like to extend that side of the roof to cover the steps, but will need to do so at a lesser slope to maintain adequate head clearance. Is there a product I can use to "encourage" snow to shed from this lower roof overhang such as heat tape or cabling?
