Gentleman:
I am involved in the design of a project with essentially a perfectly square plan and a hip roof, which of course culminates in a "point". The ceilings are "cathedral" , and on the inside also converge at a point.
We are now thinking about roof ventilation. How might we go about exhausting the roof ventilation with these conditions? It seems to me that we may need to create a small flat portion of ceiling, so that we might install some type of mechanical exhaust fan that exits at the pointed peak.
Any thoughts?

That would be one way to accomplish things. Also, depending upon roof pitch and the type of metal roof you install, it might be possible to run som,e ventilation on the hips.
