Thanks, Todd, for your help --
I've got a follow-up question for you and anyone else generous enough to respond...
The roof pitch is 12/12, which let's assume is way too steep for ridge vents on the hips. What, then, can be done at the point of the roof to provide enough ventilation "draw"? Will some type of power vent be necessary? It seems to me that each rafter cavity "dead ends" at the hip members. Other than using one vent for each rafter space, what would you suggest? I suppose this must be a common condition with a standard nice simple solution -- ??? I can't think of anything else except building a cupola -- which is not desired in this case. Maybe some time of deeper hip member in conjunction with secondary perpendicular members over the rafters to allow air flow over between the rafter cavities? Still, the problem of what to do at the "point" to generate enough vent draw remains.
Thanks for the help...
