Can you please tell me if raccoons can damage a metal roof. My shingle roof has many shingles missing because of raccoons and other animals running across and over the roof.

I think that with any roof you want to keep animals off of it if at all possible. Chances are, especially, if your roof is steeply pitched, they will have a bad experience on it and not want to go back. I certainly can't predict with 100% certainty what will happen but I have not heard of major problems with raccoons and metal roofs. I have a home with a metal roof and a coon climbed it once and got into the chimney ... but no roof damage.
