Sure! The transition between materials will require some specially made flashings. I would suggest engaging your metal roof manufacturer to see if they can make those flashings or help the local contractor determine how to make them.
I have a hip roof that I'd like to do half shingle and half metal. I have 4 skylights on the back, southern side of house and would like to re-shingle that side and then do metal ridge cap and roofing on the north, west and east sides. Is this reasonable?
