I believe the International Building Code, which is the most commonly adopted code across the country, requires underlayment on top of decking before any roofing material is installed. Individual metal roofing manufacturers also typically call for it. I'd suggest calling your local building inspection office to see what they say.
I agree with you, Sir.
I recently did a roof for a client here in Va. It had a metal roof to begin with and I tore it off & installed new metal, now he has an inspector who's saying it has to have an underlayment between wood and metal, can you please tell me what the code here is,. Roanoke Virginia
I failed to mention that the roof had spaced sheeting, would that make any difference??
