
It looks like the coating is actually peeling off / delaminating. That is not good. Even with the roof's age, you might go back to the manufacturer to see if there is any warranty coverage. Usually when paint peels (though this took a pretty long time to do so), it peels because of some sort of cleaning, pre-treatment, or primer issue on the metal. I hate to say it but repainting will probably just lead to peeling again.
I know that some companies mark the back of all of their panels so the manufacturer can be tracked down. I don't think that was so very common in the past though. I am sorry.
Can a metal roof be painted? Our 27-year-old roof is losing its color, especially on the south-facing side. We are also located approx. 100 feet away from Bellingham Bay (salt water) on the north shore of Guemes Island.
