I am sorry to hear this. The heat cables truly didn't work or they didn't fix the problem? Icing on roofs is frequently the result of heat escaping from the home. Can you increase the insulation and ventilation in your attic?

I am sorry to hear about this. Metal roofs do conduct heat ... so heat from inside the structure or even from the sun can reach the metal and then cause the snow to get slippery and slide. My recommendation on gutters is minimum 6" gutter produced from .032" aluminum mounted as HIGH as possible (most people tend to think lower is better but that has not been my experience) using fascia mounted brackets into every rafter tail. If you add insulation to the attic, be careful to not block the airflow from your intake (soffit) vents.

I had a metal roof installed 2 years ago. In the 2022 December blizzard my gutters came down due to ice/snow. I had my gutters replaced in the spring of 2023, with the additon of new soffets, facia, downspouts and heating elements put inside the gutters to prevent ice build-up. In our most recent winter storm, my gutters came down again, filled with ice. Obviously the heating elements did not work.

I am at a loss of what to do about this problem. I also have 2 sets of snow bars on each side of my roof . some people I know with metal roofs dont have gutters at all, some do. Does anybody have this problem, or know what I can do?

Your help is much appreciated.

The heating elements failed. I thought it may have been an electrical problem and had my electrician come out to check. The electrical was fine. One side appeared to be working, but the other side, when plugged in shorted both lines. The electrician said it was a problem with the heating element line. By that time, ice & snow had already accumulated in the gutters, and we were unable able to check the lines (they were buried) for the source of the problem.

I have double snow guards on both sides of the roof, but the snow & ice formed on the overhang and into the gutters. The side that appeared to be working, came down on day 5 of the storm, the other 3 days later. My attic is not insulated, it is ventilated. I have lived in this house for 27 years and have never had a problem until we installled the Metal roof.

I am having an insulation company look at it , and also working with my contractor to come up with a solution for the gutter problem. Any help would be appreciated.
