Thank you. That is good testament to the durability of metal. There are numerous products and systems you will find by googling metal roof restoration. Of course, I do not know the details of your roof but the inspector is correct in that it would predate current building codes. This will likely be a big challenge for you. I'm sorry. One option may be to find an experienced metal roofing contractor who can inspect the roof and attest to its expected remaining life.
I'm under contract on a historic home in Florida. The inspector highlighted that the original tin roof (100+) was in need of replacement. However, there is only one leak observed.
Personally, I love the way it looks and want to preserve the provenance of the home. Is there any solution to save + preserve the roof?? The inspector was not receptive to any type of roof coating due to the existing roof does not meet hurricane standards.
